Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to analyze the thought on Thai economy and society of Mr.Pin Boa-on, Thai intellectual who expresses his wish that Thai society needs to be developed for the benefit of society as a whole and, in particular, for the well-being and a better quality of life of people from disadvantaged background. The factors that influenced Mr.Boa-on socialism ideology were his background at undergraduate level at Thammasat university, famous Thai political university, and his opportunity to participate in the course conducted at the Marxism-Leninism Institute in Beijing in the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). After he had returned to Thailand from the PRC, he rejoined the Communist Party of Thailand (CPT) as core leader and conducted political activities against the government for a certain period of time until he was arrested and split up with the CPT due to difference in opinions. The information obtained from the study of his life and his works indicated that before 1976, he showed his willingness to transform Thai economy and society into socialism similar to Chinese socialism which had an impact on his socialism ideology. Later, his ideas had been changed due to the context of Thai society. He began to accept the need for and the development of capitalism. However, to his own belief, when capitalism society reaches its saturation point, the lower class wiss put on uprising demanding for the transformation of Thai society into the new state. Nevertheless, Mr.Boa-on still upholds his socialism ideology aiming at establishing a society in which every person is equal, opportunities.
