The Development of a Training Program to Enhance Morals and Ethics in Public Mindedness of Upper-secondary Level Students at Schools under Office of the Non-formal and Informal Education
Abstract:
The research objectives were to 1) develop a training program to enhance morals and ethics in public mindedness of upper-secondary level students at schools under Office of the Non-formal and Informal Education and 2) examine the efficiency of the training program. The research was conducted in 4 phases: Phase 1 studying fundamental data from related documents and research as well as interviewing six experts; Phase 2designing a training program based on the fundamental data study, criticizing it in a focus group by nine experts, and evaluating its appropriateness and concordance by twelve experts; Phase 3examining the efficiency of the training program. The samples included thirty-five upper-secondary level students in the 1st semester, academic year 2013 obtained through purposive random sampling, from the schools under Office of the Non-formal and Informal Education. They attended 4-day training program and their public mindedness was tested. A set of questionnaire was used to assess their satisfaction towards the training program. Data were statistically analyzed in mean, standard deviation, and non-independent samples t-test; and Phase 4improving the training program after the examination of the efficiency of the training program.
The research results revealed as follows.
1. The training program to enhance morals and ethics in public mindedness of upper-secondary level students at the schools under Office of the Non-formal and Informal Education involved principles and rationale, program objectives, and program structure which focused on enhancing 5 components of public mindedness, i.e., disciplined mind, synthesizing mind, creating mind, respectful mind, and ethical mind. The appropriateness of the training program was reported at the highest level. The individual components of the program were in concordance at the high level.
2. The efficiency of the developed training program to enhance morals and ethics in public mindedness was confirmed by the occurrence of students public mindedness as a whole as well as the 5 components, i.e., disciplined mind, synthesizing mind, creating mind, respectful mind, and ethical mind. Further, the students satisfaction towards the training program was found at the high level.
