Abstract:
This study was purposed 1) to study of settlement of domicile and water utilization of Lam Takong in the area of Nakhon Ratchasima municipality. 2) to analysis water deterioration of Lam Takong. 3) to suggest solution of water treatment for better environment and supporting next growing urbanization of Nakhon Ratchasima in future. The data collected for studying was domicile setting, natural water and land use, economics, demographics, elementary development, and political gathering and management. The demographics data was gained from such relevant documents provided by government agencies, and other technical papers. The area data was from air photographs and field survey. The result showed that the water in Lam Takong was used as the source for water supply, agriculture, aquatic animal culture, and also the place for passing wastewater. It found that most of activities that caused water deterioration was wastewater released from residences, government buildings, schools, hospitals, manufactories, food markets, and slaughterhouses, and also by riverside residency encroachment. Some of wastewater drained and passed through water treatment systems, but some was drained directly down to Lam Takong. This caused decrease of ground water quality down to level 5 that means it can not be eaten or used. The causes of water deterioration in Lam Takong were 1) Increasing of wastewater released from high-density activities in area. 2) None of water treatment system provided in some part of are, and existing ones were lack of covering and low potential to support increasing wastewater. 3) Riverside residency encroachment made draining wastewater directly to the water. 4) Other causes, such as chemicals used in agriculture that washed to the river, littering, and natural water plants. Therefore, suggestion made for Lam Takong water treatment was to set and improve existing water treatment systems of this area for supporting increasing wastewater in future. Also, it should be zoning of area development to prevent effecting to natural water source, and rectify existing enforcement to be in line with urban development in future
