Abstract:
This study was a quasai-experimental research. The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of program regarding prevention of accidental falls at home among the elderly in Ban Rong Subdistrict, Ngao district, Lampang province. The Self-efficacy theory was applied to develop the intervention program which awareness of falling prevention, demonstrations practicing appropriate posture, and improving environmental. The participant of the study was one 134 elderly people from Ban Rong Subdistrict, Ngao district, Lampang province. They were was divided in to 2 groups: study group (n = 67) and control group (n = 67). The data were collected by interview. The contents of interview form were consisted of personal data, environment data, knowledge and behavior regarding accidental fall. The study group was getting program for 12 weeks. Descriptive and inferential statistics (paired sample t-test and Independent Sample t-test) were used for data analysis. The results were found that the average knowledge and behavior score at after getting health education program, the mean knowledge of post-test was significantly higher than those of pre-test among the study group (t = -4.255, P < 0.01). The mean behavior of post-test was significantly higher than those of pre-test among the study group (t = -7.893, P < 0.001).Resulting in decreased falling accidents at home for the elderly. Thus, it is recommentended that this program should be used with the elderly in other areas.
