Abstract:
Studies the binding operation of periodicals in state university central libraries. Examines the process of selection, preparation, binding place and duration of bounding as well as problems, the way to solve the problems and suggestions. Also, it is a survey research. That the interview is used as a study tool to collect data from the librarians of 27 state university central libraries. The results of the research are found that most of university libraries assigns serial division to operate binding process. In the selection of periodicals to be bound, the librarians consider the contents of periodicals to support academic value and can be used as reference. While the preparation of periodical binding, most of university libraries check periodical list from kardex or computer periodical records which are listed continuously. One color is assigned to the cover of one individual title. The division prepare list of periodical binding and send copies to related division. Most of libraries send periodicals with binding slip to bindery during vacation and summer semester. For binding problem found that the highest mean average is caused by the narrow space of inner margine of periodical. Most libraries found the way to solve the problem of missing periodicals by making regular claim to the agentcies. A staff is assigned to operate and control all binding process. The research result are useful in case of binding and solve binding process.
