Abstract:
Most construction projects in Thailand lack formal technology transfer system. As result, some construction organizations loose their opportunity to learn and know new technology. The objective of this research aims to explore the suitable guideline in technology transfer system for construction projects. The technology in construction can be categorized into 6 groups such as equipment technology, material technology, information technology, construction technique, construction management and contract management. In the research, data was collected by using questionnaires and interviews from contractors, consultants, designers and owners in 54 samples from 6 construction projects. The study applied technology transfer model from De La Garza's to show the processes of technology transfer, and relations between people and organization in the processes. It was found that the technology transfer diagram can illustrate the whole process clearly in every step, but not in every type of technology. The efficiency of diagram depends on the feature of technology, differences in detail of knowledge and the complicating sequences along transfer system. However, the study described the analysis of technology transfer system and some current problems. The summarization of problems can be used to plan the method and policy for developing technology transfer system in an organization.
