It is estimated that about 20-25% of the worlds adult population have the metabolic syndrome and they are 2-3 times have a heart attack or stroke compared with people without the syndrome. In this study, we want to see the result of CAVI has increased in metabolic syndrome group, or not? So we can use CAVI to predict artery age of patients and monitor patient in aspect of lifestyle, nutrition, exercise or treatment in metabolic syndrome patients.
Objective: To compare arterial stiffness between metabolic syndrome subjects and normal subjects.
Material and Methods: This study is a retrospective cross-sectional study which collect samples from OPD Wellness of Bangkok Hospital Hatyai during the year 2014-2015 and between age of 35-55 years old. All selected OPD case have completed data in history, physical examination and laboratory and meet the researchs criteria. 240 subjects are enrolled in this study and divided in 2 groups, the one is metabolic syndrome group and the other is normal subjects group.
Results: 240 enrolled participants were found that median of CAVI in metabolic syndrome group is 8.00± 0.074 higher than the median of CAVI in normal subjects group is 6.93±0.077 statistical significance (P-value < 0.05).
Conclusion: CAVI in metabolic syndrome group is statistically significant higher than normal subjects group.
