Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to 1) study the desirable characteristics of lower secondary students;
2) study the reality, expectations and needs about desirable characteristics; 3) develop an activity model to enhance
desirable characteristics; 4) study the results from the implementation of the developed activity model and 5) study
student satisfaction towards the developed activity model to enhance desirable characteristics. The samples in this
study were 38 lower secondary 2 students at Porncharoenwittaya School in the first semester of academic year B.E.
2557 (2014), selected by using cluster random sampling. The research instruments employed were 1) a reasoning test on desirable characteristics; 2) a behavioral assessment test on desirable characteristics and 3) a questionnaire
on the satisfaction towards the developed activity model to enhance desirable characteristics. The statistics used
in data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test.
The study revealed the following results: 1) lower secondary students possessed 18 desirable characteristics;
2) the desirable characteristics of lower secondary students were at a high level in all traits, both in reality and
expectations. Meanwhile, the desirable characteristics that were in need of enhancement were (1) responsibility;
(2) discipline; (3) enthusiasm for learning; (4) frugality/sufficiency and (5) punctuality; 3) the overall quality of the
developed activity model was at a high level (X = 4.21, S.D = 0.45); 4) The implementation results of the
developed activity model to enhance desirable characteristics yielded that students' reasons and behaviors on
desirable characteristics after learning was higher than before learning at a statistically significant level of .01 and
5) the overall student satisfaction towards the developed activity model to enhance desired characteristics was at
a high level (X = 4.20 , S.D = 0.75).
