Abstract:
The characteristics of the middle part of the Chao Phraya River have influenced the lifestyle of those living along the river, their customs and their modification of the topography to suit their daily activities. However, at present, land transportation plays a more important role in their life, resulting in changes in their lifestyle, customs and dependence on the river for their existence. 7The procession of Buddha-gesorn in Ban Po Subdistrict, Sena District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayuttaya Province was an example of a close relationship between a community and a river before the road construction 30 years ago. However, there has been an attempt to revive this tradition. This study aims to examine the relationship between activities and the event venue in the past and in 2013. The data were collected from photographs, observations and interviews of the elderly and the participants. Then they were analyzed to determine the pattern of area use in performing each activity. After that all of the information was transformed into a map for a further comparative study. It was found that 1) there were changes in the organizers structure and roles. The Tambon Administrative and organizations outside the community played more important roles in organizing the event. 2) This tradition required both water and land routes. 3) The area of the sermon hall and the area of the bridge linking monks quarters and the sermon hall have been the key areas in the temple for organizing this event. 4) As for the area outside the temple, Chao Ched water gate has the potential to serve this activity in the future and 5) other findings obtained from this study can be applied to develop the area so that it will be more practical for organizing this traditional event.
