Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to present techniques for the selection of natural materials in the production of compressed sheets with TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution). The method divided into two part. First part, testing the mechanical properties consists of compression test, flexural strength test and water absorption test. And final part, sorting the alternative via TOPSIS technique. The following 8 criteria were used for material selection: water absorption, compression, flexural strength, production time, procedure, production volume ratio, materials cost, and production cost. The material is used as an alternative to the production of three types: rice straw and water hyacinth, corn chips. Results from the analysis showed the most suitable material for the production of plates from the canals scrap, corn and straw, with a score on the 0.6213, 0.5697, and 0.3211 respectively. For the selection process scrap material by TOPSIS also has disadvantages. If the rate has many decision makers they may have trouble scoring as the opinions and ideas may differ. So in the future, the application Fuzzy Logic should be combined with TOPSIS.
