Abstract:
The objectives of this research are: 1) to study level of Big Five personality, work motivation and effective work of civil engineers; 2) to study the relationships between Big Five personality and effective work of civil engineers; 3) to study the relationships between work motivation and effective work of civil engineers; and 4) to predict effective work of civil engineers with Big Five personality and work motivation. The research sample comprised from 397 civil engineers who were training at Engineering Institute of Thailand under H.M. The Kings Patronage. Questionnaires were used for data collection. The statistics employed for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of this research indicated that:
1) The level of agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness, work motivation and effective work of civil engineers were high. The level of extraversion and neuroticism of civil engineers are moderate.
2) Conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness positively correlated with effective work of civil engineers at a statistically significant level of .01 but extraversion and neuroticism did not correlate with effective work of civil engineers.
3) Work motivation positively correlated with effective work of civil engineers at a statistically significant level of .01.
4) Two predictors: work motivation and conscientiousness together could predict 14.8 percent of the effective work of civil engineers.
