Abstract:
This thesis aims at studying the maintainance of the recitation and intoned conversation of Nang Yai and Khon, which the Ramakien Tale is played, by interviewing Master Vira Mimuean and comparing the difference between the recitation-intoned conversation of the two performance, using The Fifth Battle of Thotsakan scene as a case study. The Study reveals that Master Vira Mimuean is an expert who conserves the recitation-intoned conversation style of Nang Yai from Master M.R.Charoonsawat Suksawat of Phraya Natthakanuraks school and the Khon style from Master Sanga Sasiwanit of Phraya Soonthorntheprabams school. This knowledge has been transmitted in oral tradition by putting himself in the care of the teacher and memorizing. The knowledge of traditional Nang Yai and Khon is composed of types, processes, principles, quality of speechmen and speechmens roles. Despite of keeping traditional knowledge, Master Vira Mimuean create humourful conversation of the two performances. This research also discovers the five intonative styles of Nang Yai and Khon: the Chabang, the Yani, the Chomdong the Oh and the Cheracha Thao Khwam. Caused by the lacking of teacher, keeper and performance condition, it is hard to maintain the recitation-intoned conversation knowledge. The comparison of the recitation-intoned conversation of the selected scene performed by Master Vira Mimuean indicates the five dictinctive features: recitation wordings, conversation wordings, melodies, intonations and characterss details. The most distinction are that the recitation-intoned conversation of Nang Yai are faster and sweeter, whereas the Khon style seems stronger.
