Abstract:
Globba pendula Roxb. is the commonest Globba that can be found from
Thailand down to Sumatra and Borneo island of Indonesia. Flowering phenology, insect visitation, pollination experiment, and pollen germination were studied. The results showed that there is a movement of the style during anthesis, indicated that flexistyly is present in Globba pendula. Insect visitation showed that the common visitors of Globba pendula are bees i.e. Trigona collina and Apis sp. Pollination
experiment showed that Globba pendula is not self pollinated plant illustrating in lack of fruits in bagged flower treatment. In addition, bulbils were found abundant compared to fruits in all treatments. Bulbils production allows herbaceous plants to grow vigorously and establish rapidly, and may alleviate competition for pollinators.
Pollen germination of Globba pendula were conducted in vitro with water as the
media. The numbers of pollen that successfully produced pollen tube were proven
low, ranging from 20 to 29 % showing the low level of pollen viability
