Abstract:
This cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to explore personality and creativity of the 1st to 5th year medical students at Chulalongkorn University representing government-run university and the 1st year students from various faculties at Kasembundit University representing private university in Bangkok Metropolitan, where 1,080 students were recruited. Another aim was to assess the quality of IPIP-Thai (International Personality Item Pool-Thai version). Research instruments included a demographic questionnaire, IPIP-Thai and the creativity questionnaire developed by Jutamas Nakniyom. Mean and standard deviation were used to describe personality and creativity dimensions; Pearson Correlation Coefficient to determine relationship between each personality and creativity dimension; and Independence t-test or One-way ANOVA to determine relationship between others variables and personality/creativity dimensions where appropriate. IPIP-Thai has internal consistency type of reliability with Cronbachs Alpha ranged from .69 to .90 and test-retest reliability with correlation coefficient ranged from .66 to .89. Content validity has confirmed by experts. Construct validity has been verlified by Factor Analysis showing 11 first-order factors and 4 second-order factors. The personality factor with highest score is Conscientiousness which valued 58.3 (out of 100). For creativity, Flexible/Elaboration scores 24.7 which is higher than Originality/Fluency. IPIP Intellect factor has high correlation with both Originality/Fluency and Flexibility/Elabolation of creativity scale. To apply the study results should, however, do with cautions due to a limit of generalization. The sample could not represent students of Bangkok Metropolitan because it was not randomly selected from all population.
