Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to investigate the physical fitness of the undergraduate students majoring in Physical Education in Bangkok metropolitan universities and also to set up the physical fitness norms for these students. A cluster random sampling method was used to select 746 students 412 males and 334 females from Kasetsart University, Chulalongkorn University, Ramkhamhang University and Srinakharinwirot University. The International Committee for Standardized Physical Fitness Tests was used in collecting the data. The obtained data were analyzed into means, standard deviations, table T-scores, one-way analysis of variance and Newman Keuls's multiple comparison. It was found that: 1. The average ability of physical fitness of the undergraduate students were as follows: 1.1 Male: Fifty-meter dash 7.20 seconds, standing broad jump 2.23 meters, grip strength 43.5O kilo-grams, sit-up 24.54 times, pull up 8.47 times, shuttle run 10.37 seconds, trunk-forward flexion 12.11 centimeters and one thousand-meter run 3.58 minutes. 1.2 Female: Fifty-meter dash 8.45 seconds, standing broad jump 1.78 meters, grip strength 32.47 kilo-grams, Sit-up 19.67 times, flexed arm hang 17.06 seconds, shuttle run 11.60 seconds, trunk forward flexion 13.68 centimeters and eight hundred-meter run 3.60 minutes. 2. The physical fitness of the undergraduate students majoring in physical education in each institution was significantly difference at the .05 level. 3. The physical fitness of the undergraduate students majoring in physical education in the second and the third years were better than the first and the fourth years. 4. Physical fitness norms for the undergraduate students majoring in physical education were assigned in 5 levels: excellent, good, moderate, fair and poor. The physical fitness of the undergraduate students majoring in physical education in Bangkok metropolitan universities were of physical fit at the moderate level.
