Relationships among Post-Operative Period, Symptom Frequency Symptom Distress, Fear of Fall and Physical Activity in Patients Post Coronary Artery Bypass Graft
Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationships among post-operative period, symptom frequency, symptom distress, fear of fall and physical activity in patients post coronary artery bypass
graft. One hundred and fifty-ninepatients with post coronary artery bypass graft were recruited from out-patient departments ofCardiothoracic Surgery at King Chulalongkorn Memoral Hospital and Police Hospital using a simple random sampling. The instruments used for data collection were the demographic data questionnaire, symptom frequency and symptom distress questionnaire, fear of fall questionnaire, and physical activity questionnaire. These instruments were tested for their content validity by a panel of experts.Internal consistency reliability for each questionnaire tested by Cronbachs alpha were .95, .95, .98 and .81,respectively.Data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson product-movement correlation.
The result was shown that: 1) the average score of physical activity of coronary artery bypass graft surgery patients was 42.01 (S.D. =16.11). 2) Post-operative period was positively correlated with physical activity in patients with post coronary artery bypass graft surgery (r=.343). 3) Symptom frequency, symptom distress and fear of fall were negatively correlated with physical activity in patients with post coronary artery bypass graft surgery (r=-.282, -.280,-.443).Recommendation: The result of this study can be used a basic for planning and promoting of physical activity that are appropriate.Improve nursing care efficiency and promoting continuous physical activity in patients with post coronary artery bypass graft surgery after discharge from the hospital.
