Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this research was to study lifestyle and health behaviors of Thai people in Ubonratchathani province. Methods This research was the qualitative research. The study was done in Hua Don Community and Tha-hi Community, Amphur Kueng-ni, Ubonratchathani province. There were 30 key informants, consisted of people aged 45-59 years old who live in Hua Don Community and Tha-hi Community more than 10 years, 10 people from each community and 5 people who have known their community history from each community. The data were collected by survey, non-participant observation, and deep interview. The content analysis was used to analyze data.Results lifestyle of people in agricultural society followed Heet-Sip-Song, settled down close to a river, cultivated rice, found foods from nature, had party after work, and drank alcoholic beverage with foods. When foreign culture influenced their society, folks were more likely to be hirelings and taxi driver. They worked all day and worked as a shift, drank coffee, ate instant foods, had party after work, and drank alcoholic beverage. For health behaviors, there were 3 health behaviors. Eating behaviors, working age-folks and agricultural elderly ate medium-rare foods. Hirelings and taxi drivers ate instant foods and drank coffee, energy drink, and alcoholic beverage. Physical activity behaviors, there were 3 physical activities which were lifestyle-like behavior, for example, farming and gardening, exercise-like behavior, for example, yoga, football, and takraw, and non-exercise physical activity. For stress management behaviors which the stress was caused by family problems, problems from works, and health problems, folks relieved their stress by talking and praying.Conclusion lifestyle and health behavior were depended on community context and the changing of social status
