Abstract:
The purposes of this research were 1) to study the status of private acting studios 2) to study the performing arts concept 3) to study the opinion of private acting studios students. The study is considerably a qualitative research by using multiple methodologies. For private acting studios are 1) the ex- private acting studios influencing the present private acting studios by studying the relevant documents Including in-depth interview relevant persons 2) the present private acting studios (Oct. 2013 - Feb. 2014) which found in online documents 44 studios by studying studios and relevant documents, in-depth interview executive and acting teacher of studios, and also the observation. For private acting studios students, study by interviewing 66 students (3-12 yrs., 13-18 yrs., and 19 yrs. and up) scattered by studio categories.The research found that the present private acting studios founded in 2002-2006 4 studios, in 2007-2011 20 studios, and in 2012-2013 20 studios. It can be divided into 4 categories: 1) studios that have intention to specifically train acting 2) studios that have intention to entirely train performing arts 3) studios that have intention to be modeling agency 4) theatrical organization founded by person or group of persons. It can be seen a number of the businesses operated mostly with TV production business, and event performance business. However, significantly, acting training is the main part in generating revenue. For the location, the result shows that most of private acting studios are located on Ladprao road and in Town-in-Town area which is the cluster of TV and advertising production. Moreover, 52.0% of private acting studios register as limited company. Performing arts concept can be categorized into 4 groups: acting for being actors; acting for being singer-dancer; acting for personal development; acting for further study in university. In this regard, there are a few main reasons of studying acting: want to be an actor (65.2%), want to use in daily life (22.7%), and want to use in further study and relevant career (12.1%)
