Abstract:
Japanese Trendy TV Drama always assigns the main characters with career and most of the dramas in Japanese employing career theme. The research purpose is to study Japanese TV Drama characterization and narration in the dramas with career theme, Japanese social that relate to Japanese Drama, and Japanese Drama trend in the past 10 years (2002 2011). The research is qualitative research by textual analysis and in-depth interview with experts. The research found that 9 popular Japanese TV dramas with career theme are consisted of 6 serials and 3 series, can be categorized into 3 types. First, Investigative approach :- Mr. Brain and Galileo. Second, Love approach:- Change, Haken no Hinkaku, Dr. Koto no Shinryojo, Engine, Pride, and Good Luck!!. Third, Comedy Action approach:- Gokusen. The dramas use the characters attempted to succeed in the career or in life to narrate the story, and employ the career of the characters to define characters behavior, knowledge, ability, environment and people surrounding. Most of the shows have male protagonists, they are Neuroscientist, Politician, Physician, Surgeon, Racer, Hockey, and Pilot. Only two are female protagonists, they are teacher and temporary employee. All of them, main character and minor character (with opposite sex) always support each other in highly significant. The trend of Japanese TV drama in the past 10 years shows that the most popular career is detective-police. More than 40 percent employ Career Theme. According to working based society in Japan, the experts remark that people tend to work hard and be effective in team working as well as encouraging endeavor.
