Abstract:
A scenario for simulation of energy saving potential for natural gas driven CHP systems in Thailand has been developed in the context of an energy demand forecast for the year 2020. The long-range energy alternatives planning system (LEAP), which has been used to conduct the forecast, it a demand-supply balancing tool. As CHP systems can be considered both, a supply-side technology or a demand-side technology, a method was developed to separate the CHP system into two theoretical units. Another possible method is the simulation of CHP systems only in the demand side. The two methods have been compared to show their peos and cons. Finally the simulation was conducted with the split simulation with each one of the theoretical units in the demand and the supply sides. CHP systems have been simulated for the industry and the commercial sector. To avoid the overestimation of the energy saving potential. several assumptions have been made to limit the simulated CHP potential. The most important results of the study are the influence of CHP systems on the total energy demand in the simulated sectors and the influence of the CHP systems on the fuel share during the simulation period
