Abstract:
This study investigates for the spatial conditions of existence communities in Ayutthaya historic town. Most areas surrounded by ancient remains and its cause communitys settlement between these ancients remains so that the communities cannot freely expand, inner transportation and open space network was obstructed and disconnect in system. Moreover, these problems do not attract activities on network which is communitys element and distribute consistent with access potential of historic town. As a result, these communities cannot exist within the community itself, they must adapt by relying on cross community or associated with each other to be able to existence. The processes of studying and conceptual framework are under the main theories in Urban Morphology such as Natural Movement (Hillier et al., 1993), Movement Economy Process (Hillier et al., 1996), Spatial Centrality as a process (Hillier, 2000) and also concepts of socio-economic characteristic such as Social Logics of Space (Hillier and Hanson, 1984). The methodology is using collection and analysis data in both qualitative and quantitative by integrating between spatial and socio-economic factors. Result found that these communities were combined into 3 community groups such as 1) community group that rely on each other with complete element to be able to existence such as Huaro market community group, consist of spatial condition, and Chaophrom market community group, consist of socio-economic condition. 2) community group that rely on each other with incomplete element and must rely on cross community in some occasion such as Pratoochai community group, consist of spatial and socio-economic condition. 3) community group that rely on each other with incomplete element and must always rely on near and far distance such as Ronggnansura community group, consist of socio-economic condition. The conclusion in theoretical that Huaro market community group has spatial condition to exist which accordingly to spatial centrality as a process (Hillier, 2000). Chaophrom market community group can existence with socio-economic of attractors which unsustainable existence. As same as Pratoochai community group and Ronggnansura community group must rely on other communities. For suggestion policy, the important factors are to create, preserve and re-integrate transportation and open space network to merge ancient remains areas to be a part of community areas with suitability in terms of groups characteristic and to connect transportation network within communities and town areas to encourage passenger to pass comfortably. This process will increase movement density and variety of activities according to accessibility potential and also calm activities such as residential or lively activities such as commercial to be a live center. Including the other activities that general distribution, become complete element that make these communities to be able to survive by itself.
