Abstract:
Recent customer complaint indicated problems on product delivery delay. As such, the factory manager decided to resolve these problems. The objective of this study was to improve the manufacturing process and increase productivity in making the beverage dispensing machine, using work study methods. The study focused on improving the production of a base of the beverage dispensing machine model N-2S, which was in the highest demand for production. Before the improvement, a total of 175 bases of N-2S could be made with a production team of 10 workers per day. Forty five steps with 25 minutes and 37 seconds and a traveling distance of 28 meters were required for making a base of N-2S. For production improvement, plant manager has rearranged a base of production of the beverage dispensing machine. To reduce the complex process, eliminate unimportant process from main process and improve to be an easy process by ECRD principle. As compared to the results cafter the improvement, 35 steps with 22 minutes and 2 seconds (50% reduction in flow distance) were found in making a base of N-2S. This improvement contributed 16% to overall productivity increase; making 204 bases of N-2S per day by the same production team.
