Abstract:
The purpose of this independent study project is to evaluate the effectiveness of propolis in the treatment of inflammatory acne. By testing of 30 volunteers in Bangkok and Chonburi population of men and women aged between 15 and 30 years old with inflammatory acne without allergy bees or bee products and antibiotics. The volunteers were divided the face, one side tested with clindamycin and another side tested with propolis for compared the number and severity of inflammatory acne for 12 days and evaluation questionnaire which was used to create the idea that the study of literature concerned. For analysis of the data used base percentage and analysis of quantitative data. To analyze the data are consistent with the results obtained from the study.
The result of this study found that the propolis and clindamycin can reduced the number and severity of inflammatory acne. Prior to treatment with an average 3.03±1.59 for propolis and 3.93±1.66 for clindamycin after treatment at 12, the number of acne, the mean reduction was 0.67±0.88 and 0.90±0.99, respectively. Moreover, grade 3 severity levels found after treatment of 12 with an average decrease of 0.20±0.41 for propolis and 0.13±0.35 for clindamycin. The result of this study found that the propolis and clindamycin can reduced the number and severity of inflammatory acne can be very significant. But no difference was statistically significant between propolis and clindamycin. However not found the negative side effects of the propolis.
The results conclude that propolis may be another alternative to treatment of inflammatory acne. It is natural and free of side effects.
