Abstract:
Transmitter is an important measuring instrument for the petrochemical industry. There are many types of transmitter dividing by functionality e.g. level transmitter, flow transmitter pressure transmitter, etc. Furthermore, a single transmitter is composed of many components. Consequently, the essence of quoting is accuracy and rapidity of information acquisition. This study focuses on the quoting process of transmitter products and spare parts of a case study company. Currently, the case study company spends time to search and to acquire information of the desired product and/or spare parts averagely 44.4 minutes per model. It is a time consuming process because the company does not have a database system of products and spare parts. As a result, it makes difficulties and errors in the quoting process. This study therefore develops a database management system to support the sales. It applies work flow chart to analyze the current system and to propose a new system. DFD and ERD are applied to develop the database. Finally, it applies the relational database, MS Access, to develop the database management system. The system stores technical information of products and spare parts, not only texts but also pictures and relative documents. The implementation of this system can reduce a number of mistakes and also reduce the duration of the quoting process down to 5.3 minutes per model in average.
