Abstract:
The purposes of this research are to1. Study the persent situation along the Thai - Myanmar border in terms of its, positive and negative effect on Thailand and its future prospect;2.Analyse measure, and policies being implement by the Royal ThaiGovernment (RTG) to find out possible solutions and alternative policies to the problems;3. Look for ways to improve efficiency of Thai officials working along the border;4.Study Myanmar policies towards Thailand especially the ones that areunacceptable to international practice; and5. Study influential people and interest groups working against national interest;The study looks into 5 major areas, namely; demarcation lines , ethnic groups, labor and migration, drugs and border trade to find out causes of the problem and how they are beeing handled by the RTG at present;The Ethnographic Delphi Future Research (EDFR) is employed in the study by interviewing with 22 experts on myanmar affairs to evaluate the present situation, analyse the problems and the dicision making process, in order to seek the best possible solution to the problem in summary. five elements of the problem, negative and positive, have been found as follows;1. Thai - Myanmar interactions.2. Conflict of interests between the two countries.3. Policies, measures used by the two countries and agreements.4. Management.5. Role of ASEAN members and superpowers.Epectes results are;1. To find solutions to the problem which can eliminate all the obstacles to the implementation of policy and, at the same time, bring about the best result,2. To obtain a pure knowledge into root causes which are fundamentally important to find the effective solution,3. To find a common approach that both private and public sectors can hold on to in dealing with Myanmar,4. To find a better systematic approach in the decision making process, and5. To be used as a model to resolve border problem with other neighboring countries.
