Abstract:
The flavonoid constituents of leaves of Vitex canescens Kurz were determined as followed. The leaves of V. canescens were dried, pulverixed and extuacted sucdessively with n-hexane and ethanol. The aqueous ethanolic solution of the ethanol exteact was successively extracted with chloroform and ethyl acetate, using continuous liquid-liquidextraction apparatus. The remaining aqueous layer was then extracted with n-butanol, using separatory funnels. The three extracts were separately subjected to column chromatography and this led to the isolation of 7 flavonoids as followed:rhamnocitrin (12), rhamnazin (13) and isorhamnetin (15) (from the chloroform extract); vitexin (9),Iuteolin-7-0- ?-D-glucopyranoside (7) and orientin (11) (from the ethyl acetate extract); homoorientin (isoorientin) (8) (from the butanol extract).
