Abstract:
Most of new product developments as customers demand are modification and adjustment
of existing product. However, a few changes in modification and adjustment can affect other
component of product. As a result, this study aims to develop methods and tools in tracking the
effect of changes on product by determining relational structure of components. The method is
consisted of 5 steps. Firstly, to gather and categorize customer demand to find functional structure
and component structure with Axiomatic Design theory. Then, to use this structure in analyzing
relationship between components by using Design Structure Matrix (DSM) and prioritize the
relationship by doing Patitioning with Reachability Matrix Method. The result will be a relational
matrix which has been re-prioritized the existing relationship of components. This new
relationship will lead to establishing a relational structure of components which can be used in
finding the effects of changing effectively. From testing of the case study Setting up NGV
system, which has been set the measurement in determining relationship between spatial and
energy interaction, it found that the developed relational structure analysis of components can
indicate the effects more completely than determining from only structural relationship of
product.
