Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to compare: 1) Thai reading comprehension ability of eighth grade students before and after they have been taught by concept-oriented reading instruction. 2) reading motivation ability of eighth grade students before and after they have been taught by concept-oriented reading instruction 3) Thai reading comprehension ability of eighth grade students taught by concept-oriented reading instruction with those taught by regular instruction. 4) reading motivation ability of eighth grade students taught by concept-oriented reading instruction with those taught by regular instruction. The participants were 87 students who were studying in eighth grade in the academic year 2010 at Santiratwittayalai School. 44 students were an experimental group recieving the concept-oriented reading instruction and 43 students were a control group recieving the regular instruction. The instruction was 8 weeks, 2 periods each week 16 periods altogether. The research instruments were a Thai reading-comprehension questionnaire and a reading-motivation questionnaire. The experimental instrument was 16 lesson plans based on the concept-oriented reading instruction model and 16 lesson plans regular. The data were analyzed by using arithmetic means ( ), standard deviation, (S), and t-test. The results were summarized as follows. 1. After recieving the concept-oriented reading instruction, students in the experimental group had significant differnces in reading compresension ability at the .05 level. 2. Students in the experimental group receiving the concept-oriented reading instruction had more significant differences in reading comprehension ability at the .05 level than those who received regular instruction. 3. After recieving the concept-oriented reading instruction, students in the experimental group had significant differnces in reading motivation at the .05 level. 4. Students in the experimental group receiving the concept-oriented reading instruction had more significant differences in reading motivation at the .05 level than those who received regular instruction.
