The Development of Integrated Instructional Model with Provision of Experience Based on the Constructivist Concepts to Develop Analytical Thinking and Learning Achievement of Prathom Suksa 3 Students
Abstract:
This research was a research and development study with the following purposes: (1) to develop
an integrated instructional model with provision of experience based on the constructivist concepts to develop
analytical thinking and learning achievement; and (2) to evaluate the effectiveness of the developed
instructional model. The research procedure was divided into three phases. Phase one was the development
of the instructional model by the study, analysis and synthesis of related documents. Phase two was
the quality verification of the developed instructional model by preliminary try-outs twice, each of which
with one classroom of Prathom Suksa III students at Wat Phromlok School and Ban klongkwae School in
Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Phase three was the evaluation of the developed instructional model by
field try-out. The try-out sample consisted of 44 Prathom Suksa III students at Wat Phra Mahathat School,
Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The employed research instruments were an analytical
thinking test and a learning achievement test. The research data were statistically analyzed using the
mean, standard deviation, and t-test.
The research findings were as follows: 1) The developed instructional model had four components:
(1) the principle component which comprised holistic learning, stimulation of thinking, learning by doing,
group working, and presentation of work outcomes; (2) the objective component which comprised the
objective to develop analytical thinking and the objective to develop learning achievement; (3) the process
component which comprised two operational steps, namely, the development of the scope of contents and
creation of integrated learning units, and the teaching practice which consisted of five teaching steps:
the step of interest building, the step of survey and investigation, the step of expanding ideas, the step of
practicing the ideas, and the step of conclusion and evaluation; (4) the measurement and evaluation component
which comprised the formative measurement and evaluation and the summative measurement and
evaluation. 2) The evaluation results of field try-out of the developed instructional model showed that the
students post-learning analytical thinking scores and post-learning achievement scores were significantly
higher than their pre-learning counterparts at the .01 level
