Abstract:
This descriptive research aimed to 1) study the level of stroke awareness in stroke risk patients
and 2) compare the stroke awareness among risk patients based on patients gender, age, marital status,
education level, income, and stroke experienced. A simple random sampling technique was used to recruit
384 patients who were at risk of stroke including diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, high
cholesterol and heart disease from OPD, four hospitals in Bangkok. The research instruments composed
of the demographic questionnaire, stroke awareness questionnaire, and stroke experience questionnaire.
The questionnaires were approved by 5 experts. The Cronbachs alpha coefficients reliability were .88, .85,
.85, and .86, respectively. Statistical techniques used in data analysis were frequency percentage, mean,
standard deviation and Analysis of Variance.
Major findings were as follows: 1) The average stroke awareness score of patients at risk of stroke
was at a moderate level. The average total score was 36.42 (SD = 5.31). 2) There were significance differences
between mean of stroke awareness according to age (F = 8.28, p < .05), education level (F= 25.71, p < .05),
income (F= 22.27, p <.05) and stroke experience including risk factors (F=32.07, p <.05), warning symptoms
(F=29.30, p <.05) and treatment (F=23.98, p<.05).
