Abstract:
The main purpose of the study is a study of ways of the living in Wat Kajorn Siri communities and Al-Iatisom Mosque communities that are communities of different culture. Site surveying, observations and interviews with the leaders of communities, teachers, imam and the committees of communities were used as the research methodologies. Including of studying unique lifestyle of Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims from the document texts that on issues such as patterns and manners of settlement of communities that are combination of Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims, religious practices related to lifestyle and land use, include unique similarities and differences in the area of the Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims communities. Bangkok is one of largest of Thailand that has a population of Buddhists and Muslims live together. The settlement is unique. The centers of the communities are Places of Worship such as Thai Buddhist temple and Muslim Mosque through households that coexist. This study aimed to study the similarities and differences in the behavior of people using the area from two groups: the first is Thai Buddhist in Wat Kajornsiri community; the second is the Thai Muslims in Al-Iatisom Mosque community that is Sunni Muslims. The condition is two communities located in areas close proximity. Regard as a case study to demonstrate ways of living in coexistence between Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims. The findings of these studies are type of specific areas and joint social areas of each community; specific areas of the Buddhist society, specific areas of the Muslim society, Specific areas of Buddhist social Muslims can share space on occasion, Specific areas of Muslim social Buddhists can share space on occasion and the joint social of Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims. The interaction of both cultural groups is a relationship through a neighbor and a friend studying together from childhood. The structures of public spaces inside the communities were clarified through the form of community priorities and linkage of land use. The main public area of each community is a religious place linked to semi-public social spaces with the second priorities that are school areas, community office, floating pier and waterfront pavilions, Maslahatul-Islam schoolyard, retail spaces, Halal restaurants and nearby area of the important persons of communities such as leaders of communities, teachers and imam. Finally, this study proposes design guidelines for public space which can approach to improve the existing public space to fit the context associated with the space efficiently.
