Abstract:
The body shop flexibility is determined by the ability of its subsystems on responding to predicted and unpredicted changes, with minimum or no impact to the overall system performance and or throughput. Body shop assembly process utilizes several subsystems; each step in the process has its own characteristics and contributions to the overall performance of the body shop system [1]. The framing process is one of the top contributors to the body shop flexibility. Utilizing actual data obtained from automotive body shops, the following paper present a discrete simulation study that focused on mimicking the process and improving the framing system flexibility in order to improve body shop overall performance.
