Abstract:
Electronics and hard disk parts industry has become predominant for a few decades due to
the steady growth of computer and IT market. This study studied a quoting process of electronics
and hard disk parts of a case study company. This company had a time consuming process of
product quotation and errors of product cost estimation. As a result, a number of unsuccessful
quotations were more than 80% of all quotations. Therefore, this study proposed to develop a
decision support model for product cost calculation of metal stamping parts. In order to solve the
problem, the product cost structure and product attributes are analyzed, product database is
created and other conditions and factors, which affect the product both direct and indirect cost,
are collected. A spreadsheet application is used to develop the support decision model to calculate
the product cost. The model facilitates sale representatives to make better decision and more
accurate. The results of implementation show a reduction of quoting lead time from 5 days to 1
day. It also enhances the successful quotations from 20% up to 38% of all quotations requested by
customers.
