Abstract:
The Purpose of this study was to compare the characteristics of Mahidol University faculty members' assignments. Four hundred and four returned questionnares were obtained from faculty members in eleven faculties. The assignments, which were categorized into teaching, research, service, and administration, were analysed into percent. The mean differences among the eleven faculties and between each faculty were determined by using one-way analysis of variance and the t-test. The findings of normal expectancy of various assignments at Mahidol University were as follows : (1) the teaching load was two courses per semester; (2) the time spent in teaching, research, rendering any services, and administration were nineteen, ten, thirteen and seven hours per week with forty hours per week the total load; (3) there were seven undergraduate advisees, five graduate advisees, and two doctoral advisees with the consulting time 0.25, 0.80, and 2.80 hours respectively per week. There were two thesis advisees per teacher in the baccalaunate' program, the master program, and the doctoral program. The consulting time was 1.0, 2.6, and 2.0 hours per week.. The comparison revealed that (1) half of the faculty members taught without doing research. one-third of the faculty members taught Without rendering any services, one - third of the faculty members taught with research and rendering services, and four - fifth of the faculty members taught with administration; (2) the faculty members' assignments in each faculty were both within and without the range of normal expectancy; (3) the number of hour per week in teaching, research, rendering any services and the total working load among eleven faculties of Mahidol University were significantly different.
