Abstract:
In a large and complex construction project, accidents are likely to occur due to the
hazardous nature of the project. Safety management system in such project is crucial to the
success of each project. This study assessed expenses of safety management system evaluated the
safety level, and assessed the losses due to accident results were also used to determine the
relationships with the safety level of the projects. In assessing the safety level of construction
project, the assessment criteria of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare were
employed. It was found from the data of 22 construction projects that 27.27% of the projects were
considered having a "fair" safety level, where 59.1% of the projects surveyed are considered
"good" and 13.63% were in the "excellent" level. It was also found that high-rise construction
projects have the investment value of safety system average at 0.53% of project value. The losses
due to accidents were averaged at 130,225.93 baht per project. Furthermore, the ratio between
direct loss and indirect loss value was 1: 2.97. It was also found that investment value of safety
system was not related to the safety level of construction project because of different management
system, administration, and techniques were used in each project
