Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study factors affecting the elderlys selection of tourist destination in Bangkok, and to compare such factors in different levels of education and occupations. The 420 subjects were male and female, members of Bangkok Elderly Club aged of 60 years old and above. The data were collected through questionnaires and statistical analysis were employed in this study in term of means, standard diviation and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The Scheffes method was utilized to pair the differences. The study results found that: 1. Most respondents were male aged between 65 69 years old whose education level was less than a bachelors degree. Their average monthly income was 10,001 15,000 baht, retiring status, married with children. They generally lived with their relatives. Usually, they enjoyed natural tourist destinations with the main purpose of travelling to visit their relatives/friends. Generally, modes of transportation were their own vehicles. They usually spent 5 6 days for the journey. They travelled 3 4 times per year during public holidays and chose to stay at a hotel. 2. Factors affecting the elderlys selection of tourist destination in Bangkok were generally the channels of distribution scale which was rated at the high level ([mean] = 3.29). X 3. Comparing factors affecting the elderlys selection of tourist destination in Bangkok from subjects with different education backgrounds, it was found that there were not any significant differences. 4. Comparing factors affecting the elderlys selection of tourist destination in Bangkok from subjects with different occupations, it was found that factors in term of products, efficiency and quality were significantly different at the statistical level of .05.
