Abstract:
The purposes of this survey study were to investigate and compare the performance of student advisors in private vocational schools in Bangkok. The comparison was made on performance of advisors with different background; namely, educational background, teaching program, and advisory experience. The informants of this study were 361 advisors who taught the students of vocational certificate program in commerce/industry in 75 vocational schools in Bangkok. Questionnaires were used to collect the data. Percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test, and LSD analysis were employed to analyze the data. The statistical significance level of this study was set at .05. It was found as a whole that the performance of the advisors was, as a whole, at a high level. However, the performance related to giving helps to and co-coordinating students was found at the lowest level among the advisors with different types of teaching program and advisory experience. The comparison of the performance of advisors teaching different programs revealed, as a whole, no differences. However, differences were found in 2 aspects; interaction with students, and giving helps to and co-coordinating students. The performance of the advisors with different educational background and advisory experience was, as a whole, different. The LSD analysis revealed differences in every pair of performance of the advisors with different educational background. In addition, differences were found in pair comparison of the performance of the advisors with different advisory experience in the aspects related to giving advice and consultation, and developing students.
