A study of conditions problems and needs of professional standardized test construction for commercebusiness administration program in private vocational schools in bangkok
Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to investigate conditions, problems and needs of professional standardized test construction for Commerce / Business Administration Program in private vocational schools in Bangkok. The informants of this study were 124 teachers in vocational schools joining the Federation of Private Vocational School of Thailand (FPVST) in constructing tools for professional standard evaluation in the form of professional standardized tests for Commerce and Business Administration Program. Questionnaires were used to collect the data. Percentage, arithmetic mean, and standard deviation were employed to analyze the data via SPSS software. It was found that: 1. With respect to test construction condition, most vocational schools used FPVSTs professional standardized tests constructed by teachers from various schools who knew the subject matters. Regarding steps of the test construction, plan, objectives and analysis tables were studied and set. For the learning behaviors, understanding, application, analysis, and practice evaluation were emphasized. In checking the test quality, it was found that trying out was made before actual use. Furthermore, an instruction manual for using the tests was provided. In the manual, test objectives were identified. School administrators had a clear policy in supporting the test construction. 2. Regarding the problems in constructing the tests, it was found as a whole and by-aspects that most were at a moderate level. Recruiting the representatives of different professional fields from entrepreneurs was one of the problems found. In constructing the tests, level of difficulties and appropriateness were another problem for test writers. Problems concerning support of test construction devices were encountered. 3. As for the needs for the test construction, it was found as a whole and by-aspects at a high level. The test writers needed some experts in measurement and evaluation to participate in the writing. For steps of the construction, an analysis of professional standard and test quality examination were needed. In addition, administrators more attention was needed to pay to the test construction.
