The participation of the parents in the management of the preschool center at Ban Kaw Waikaw preschool center in Dindang Sub-district, Lamtab District, Krabi Province
Abstract:
The objectives of the research were 1) to study the level of participation of the parents in the management of the Ban Kaw Waikaw Preschool Center, and 2) to investigate problems and provide suggestions for increasing the level of participation of the parents. The sample group consisted of 93 people who were parents of the students and 13 educators. Questionnaires were used to collect the data, and were divided into 5 areas of management: 1) curriculum management 2) teaching and learning management 3) extra curricular management 4) buildings and environment management 5) relationship between the Center and parents. The statistics employed to analyse the collected data included frequency, means, and S.D.
The results of the study revealed that :
The level of participation of the parents was found to be high. The following areas were ranked from highest to lowest respectively : teaching and learning, curriculum, relationship between the Center and parents, buildings and environment, and extra-curriculum.
Suggestions were as follows :
1. Curriculum : The parents should be informed by the teachers about the making of the curriculum so that they can participate in the process. The wisdom of local people should be included in the curriculum. The curriculum should be based on the age of the children and their interests.
2. Teaching and learning : The teachers should select appropriate teaching aids for the childrens development. Activities and games should be integrated into the lessons so that the children will enjoy their classes.
3. Extra-curricular activities : Parents should be invited to participate in the Centers activities so that the relationship between the Center and the parents will be strengthened. The Center should organize activities that provide knowledge for the parents.
4. Buildings and environment : The parents should be informed by the Center to assist in maintaining and improving the environment of the Center. The Center should keep the buildings clean and safe for children and enhance the environment with more flowers, and trees.
5. Relationship between the Center and parents : The relationship between the parents and teachers in the Center was good because the parents always met with the teachers and discussed about the children.
