A study of learning assessment competencies of mathematics teachers in secondary schools under The Office of The Basic Education Commission in Mahasarakham province
Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study learning assessment competencies of mathematics teachers in three aspects knowledge, skill and attribute. The population was a group of 185 secondary school mathematics teachers in Mahasarakham province. The research instruments consisted of the three tests for competencies in learning assessment. Data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation and qualitative data. The results of this research were summarized in three aspects of learning assessment competencies: 1. In knowledge aspect, most of mathematics teachers had learning assessment competency at fair and unsatisfactory levels. Mathematics teachers, who had educational background higher than bachelors degree, teaching in middle school and having experiences for teaching mathematics more than 10 20 years, had score of knowledge test more than 50% 2.In skill aspect, mathematics teachers assessed students learning of mathematics in term of knowledge, mathematical skill/process and attribute. Behavior assessments of teachers were using questions and mathematical word problems, and assessing students work and readiness. 3.In attribute aspect, most of mathematics teachers had learning assessment competency at the highest level.
