Abstract:
This research aims to study the feasibility on providing shuttle bus service for employees
of King Mongkuts University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). In the study, the
attitude toward the shuttle bus service is collected by interviewing the employees. The modal shift
from using private car to shuttle bus can be possible decreasing the parking demand and can solve
the parking problem at KMUTNB.
The bus routes, pick up points, bus type, fare, and scheduling of shuttle bus service were
provided according to the interesting of employees opinion. The 398 out of 1,534 employees
were interviewed and obtained information was analyzed. The Binomial Logit model was
developed in order to estimate the amount of shuttle bus passengers. In the study, two logit
models were developed, one for studying the modal shift between private car and shuttle bus and
the other for studying the modal shift between public bus and shuttle bus.
It was found that, the 569 employees (32.66% total employees) will change their existing
mode to the shuttle bus service. By changing bus mode into shuttle bus service, it would be
44.63% and changing private vehicle mode to shuttle bus service would be 29.82%. The result of
selecting mode reveals that it is not significantly different between private vehicle mode and the
shuttle bus service in safety and comfortable, except accessibility. The shuttle bus is suitable for
employees who reside remote from the King Mongkuts University of Technology North
Bangkok because the shuttle bus has a long route and the King Mongkuts University of
Technology North Bangkok is its destination.
