Tracking the effect of climate change on cloud forest at Khao Nan, Nakhon Si Thammarat
Abstract:
This research tracked the effect of climate change on Khao Nan cloud forest. The research was grouped into 4 parts: (1) the altitude of Khao Nan cloud forest and its boundary, (2) seasonal variation in the altitude of Khao Nan cloud forest and its boundary, (3) variation of cloud appearance at Khao Nan National Park and (4) new techniques for climate change detection using weather data clustering analysis. The results revealed that Khao Nan cloud forest is a seasonal coastal cloud forest which appeared in wet season. In dry season, Khao Nan cloud forest and its boundary were shifted upward, resulting in the disappearance of the Khao Nan cloud forest in dry season. These seasonal variations were also affected the occurrence of cloud in Khao Nan National Park.
In order to track the climate change in Khao Nan National Park using weather data, data analysis techniques, an integration of data distribution analysis and cluster analysis was newly developed. This data analysis was online processed. To do this, binary files were utilized to improve the performance and to increase the speed and performance of online weather data analytical and visualization processes. Our computational techniques can greatly reduce file accessing time, which as planned, helps to solve the data processing time. Our newly developed data analysis technique can detect the difference climatic characteristics between area types (community areas, lowland rain forests and cloud forests) in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The individual climatic characteristics of cloud forests and microclimate were also classified.
