Abstract:
To analyze the relationship between catholic catechism and Thai culture that presented into architecture and architectural space of catholic church architecture in Thailand, included with physical view, mental view and aesthetic view, to signify both architecture value and social value. Bansongyae catholic church is chosen to be a case study for in-depth analysis in this research. The result of study indicate that Catholics evangelization in Thailand leading to church architecture that present the local culture, both high cultural style and local/vernacular cultural style. One of the main factors for the inculturation in catholic church architecture refers to the concept of social culture and its people. Songyae catholic church is the good one to represent the idea, included with physical, mental, and aesthetic view ex. Thai vernacular style churchs building with western church planning, sanctuary around churchs building for liturgical and social usage, sacred landmark for defining sense of sacred space around the village, and catholic liturgy with different style of practice that change the aesthetic value in the architecture space that appear in western architecture. Because of the local culture and its environment that define forms for the authenticity of the catholic catechism and then presented into architecture and architectural space of the church.
