Abstract:
This thesis is the result from research on a method for conservation of stone monuments called Anastylosis, which aimed to find appropriate means to solve problems that the Fine Arts Department has encountered, particularly the restoration of Sdok Kok Thom Temple; and to determine concepts to be applied to conservation based on theories, concepts on anastylosis and conservation of stone sanctuaries, in order to study the problems and collect information and data from the restoration of the main sanctuary, a model for experimentation of hypothesis from which the results were analyzed and concluded to provide recommendations for restoration of future phases of the project, which may also be useful for restoration of other stone monuments. As for concepts of conservation, the hypothesis was set to find a balance between conservation of authenticity and interpretation. The research method began by revising relevant information and researches, collecting all relevant documents. The next step was the study of Sdok Kok Thom site by survey and analysis of past restoration works, both in terms of management and techniques, before proceeding to the case study on restoration of the main sanctuary. The final step was the conclusion and proposal of recommendations for restoration of Sdok Kok Thom Temple and other monuments. The results were concluded that the practice on the main sanctuary, which had experimented on the integration of interpretation into authenticity to find balance, and determining additional methods and working procedures, has achieved its aim that the monument is being comprehensible to the visitors who perceive the values and meaning of the monument satisfactorily, which is a development of concepts used for determining conservation design. Nevertheless, in detail, there still are certain problems to be solved that the researcher has concluded as recommendations to the Fine Arts Department, which could be adapted and also applied to other stone monuments.
