Abstract:
The research aims at a critical study of paticcasamuppada which is a very important teaching of Buddhism. With this teaching, Buddhist philosophy has its outstanding characteristics, especially the idea of causation. As regards this idea, most systems of Indian philosophy such as Bhagavadgita, Vedanta, etc., emphasize the absolute mind as the primary cause of all things. Buddhism believes that all things are impermanent (anicca), fluxional (dukkha) and soulless (anatta). They are subject to origination and destruction. The coming into being of a thing does not absolutely depend on the outside power, but on its own causes and conditions, According to the Law of Dependent Origination a phenomenon in the universe in merely a bundle of causes and conditions. In the case of human beings, how does a man come into being, how is his process of learning possible, how does his such and such behavior arise all these problems depend solely on the power of causes and conditions. Human beings are compounded things., When we analyse a mans body and mind, we clearly find only the form of relations of conditions, conforming to the process of Dependent Origination. A man is a group of various type of causes and effects undergoing continuous change in the process of birth and deaths (Samsara). That which is wandering in samsara is the Self (Atta) of conventional truth (sammati-sacca). It is myself born from ignorance which is the most important defilement. Samsara is the uprising process of the Law of Dependent Origination. This uprising process can be viewed in 3 forms : 1. A form of Momentariness. This form means the Dependent Origination in a duration of human behavior. 2. A Form of a Present Life. This form means the Dependent Origination in many duration of human behavior that continue throughout his present life. 3. A Form of Rebirth. This form means the possibilities of life stream of human being after death conditioned by Karma, Vinnana and tanha. When a man wants to stop his process of births and deaths in samsara which is considered as the endless suffering, he must develop conditions that cause the ceasing process of the Law of Dependent Origination. This Law is the Law of nature which can be used to explain not only the nature of human beings but also all other phenomena in a wider scope.
