Abstract:
This research is aimed to develop local sculpting clay of Samkhok sub-district,
Pathum Thani province for Thai ceramic and pottery. The process of development will improve
clay quality for a stable ceramic forming, less shrinking, no cracking, temperature resistance at
1,100-1,200 degree Celsius, and stabilizing after glazing and firing.
Tools used in the research 1.Chemical test 2.Scales 3.Clay folk Samkhok District,

The results of research
1.The clay mixing experimental between local Samkhok clay and Lampang clay was
revealed a complacent mixing ratio which is called A formula pointed 22. This formula are
mixed of 50 % of Samkhok clay, 40 % of silica, and 10 % of Lampang; the A formula clay has
more tenacious and thick enough for forming, stabilizing and marvelous color after firing, and
temperature resistance at 1,100 -1,200 degree Celsius with ceramic contraction only 8 % after
firing.
2.The A formula quality such as thickness, durable, color, contraction, and
temperature resistance is appropriated for sculpting three dimensional sculpture. In addition, clay
is quickly dried without cracked after firing at temperature 1,200 degree Celsius and have an
impressive finishing color with a steady shape.
3. A difficulty of bas-relief casting process is occurred in a compressing mold
procedure which has showed some cracked on the casting pieces. This problem can be categorized
into four causes as the following (1) A mold has some different thickness and level. (2) Cracking
sculpture before firing is affected from forcing to dry too fast. (3) Too width surface of sculpture
to cause a fracture. (4) A formula clay is not suitable for clay compression molding technique of
bas-relief sculptures.
