Abstract:
The entrance of foreign retail/wholesale business in the past I 0 years caused the closure of many Thai wholesale stores. The purposes of this survey study were to investigate the impacts of the foreign retail/wholesale business on the Thai wholesales and to find administration guidelines for the Thai stores to compete with the foreign. Six hundred successful administrators of Thai wholesale stores were interviewed, using the guiding questionnaire. Percentage , mean , standard deviation , Chi-square , ANOVA and scheffe were employed to analyze the data. The statistical significance level of this study was set at .05.
It was found that low price sale, stores being located near communities, and complete cycle service were the policy of the foreign stores that affected the Thai wholesales most. Tesco Lotus was the foreign retail/wholesale store affecting the Thai wholesales the most. The Thai wholesale stores would like the government to reduce the number of sale hours of the foreign stores, to abolish the laws that were beneficial to the foreign stores, and to reduce tax for the Thai stores. In addition, the unity of the Thai stores was needed to increase the negotiation power.
With respect to the administration guidelines, it was suggested, as a whole, that Thai stores should try to build up better relationship with customers and regularly find the new ones. Employees' performance should be taken into consideration fairly: those committing wrong doings should be punished while those performing well should he rewarded appropriately. Similar goods should he put in the same location. Shop windows should be decorated beautifully. Transparent finance and accounting, precise control and examination were required.
