ABSTRACT
The aim of this thematic paper is to study the concept of emptiness (Suññatā) inTipiñaka, the concept of emptiness (Suññatā) in BuddhadasaBhikkhus view and the application of emptiness (Suññatā) in daily life.BuddhadasaBhikkhu has interpreted emptiness(Suññatā) as empty mind and emphasized working with empty mind in daily life.
The result of study has shown that BuddhadasaBhikkhusinterpretation of emptiness(Suññatā) as empty mind is relevant to the concept of emptiness in the lack of self or Anattā which is only one perspective of emptiness among the three contexts approachedin Tipiñaka. From the explanation of emptiness in Tipiñaka as said in Cūla-suññataSutta, Mahā-suññataSutta and SuññaSutta, there one can find the conceptual meanings of emptiness approached from the three contexts; the first as a meditative dwelling, the second as the lack of selfor Anattā, and the third as a type of awareness-release. With the clear understanding of the three contexts of emptiness in Tipiñaka as well as the concept of empty mindin the view of BuddhadasaBhikkhu, one can apply all the concepts of emptiness (Suññatā) based on the conceptofTipiñaka and BuddhadasaBhikkhus view properly and efficiently in daily lifeswork and activities.
