Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to examine the level of participation of the Phuket Municipalities School Board Committee members in developing the students, to students, to study the factors affecting their participation, and to propose some suggestions for improving the members participation. The sample subjects consisted of 278 members of the School Board Committee. Questionnaires were used to collect the data for this study. The data was then analyzed and shown as frequency, percentages, means, S.D., and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of the analysis were as follows: The level of participation of the Phuket Municipalities School Board Committee members in developing the student as a whole was found to be high. When considering each area of participation, the following areas were found to be very high: learning management and student development activities. The factors affecting the school boards participation, it was revealed that the following factors were found significant: school information perception, attitudes towards teachers and school, as well as knowledge and understanding about their roles. The researchers proposed that the school board committee members should improve their participation as follows: learning management: the members should support the following activities improve the student skills in English and Chinese to prepare them for ASEAN Communities, cooperate and support the student educational trips to study the community resources support extra classes at weekends for the talented and disadvantaged students; student development activities: the members should support the following activities organizing extra classes for students based on their needs and interests, networking with local Communities for student internship in their work places. However, it was found that there were some areas that the Municipalities School Board Committee members wanted to participate with the schools: parents network, schools infrastructure and facilities for the students.
