The purposes of this study were 1) to develop an instructional handbook on the additional English subject, 2) to examine the efficiency of the handbook based on the standard criteria of 80/80, and 3) to compare the achievements before and after studying an instructional handbook on the additional English subject.
The sample group consisted of 30 lower secondary school teachers in Ubon Ratchathani Primary Educational Service Area Office 5 from the schools that teach the additional English subject. The research instrument consisted of the handbook of teaching and learning English for the secondary school teachers, the pre-test and the post-test that the test difficulty indices ranged from .22 to .88, the discrimination indices ranged from .21 to .64, and the reliability value of .70. The statistical procedures employed in the data analysis included percentage, mean, standard deviation, efficiency test of E1/E2 and t-test.
The research findings were as follows:
1. The instructional handbook on the additional English subject for the lower secondary school teachers in Ubon Ratchathani Primary Educational Service Area Office 5 consisted of the directions for study handbook, the pre-test, the additional English teaching approaches, communicative language teaching, content-based instruction curriculum, task-Based learning, lesson plan sample, the summary of the additional English teaching approaches and the post-test.
2. The efficiency of the handbook was found to be efficient comparing to the standard criteria of 80/80 set up, with the index of 88.00/88.11.
3. The achievement of instructional handbook on the additional English subject was found to be significant difference at .01 level, with the mean score of post-test higher than pre-test.
